Polish & Romanian Speakers each contain over 200 sound recordings of school based words and phrases which are divided into nine sections: office; class instructions; praise for work; improving work; lunchtime; behaviour; subjects & times; greetings; first day at school; school tour. The Lithuanian version contains around 100 words and phrases.
The key phrases and words appear on a button as English text. When you click the button, the computer speaks the text in either Polish, Romanian or Lithuanian (depending on the version you are using).
Typically this type of software would be used with a new arrival to school. It is designed to support you implement classroom strategies that make New Arrivals feel safe, secure, and welcome. It will help them to understand what is going on around them, and alleviates some of your frustration at not being able to communicate.
This is an ideal tool for providing encouragement, and can really motivate your EAL pupils.
